Cat Foster South Carolina aims to find cat fosterers in the state of South Carolina for cat rescues in and around Clover (SC 29710), Greenville (SC 29609) and Hodges (SC 29653).
Why the need for cat fosterers? There are three main reasons why more cat fosterers are needed in South Carolina.
Rescues with little or no premises, can increase the number of cats they can save from kill shelters by working with a number of cat fosterers. Second, South Carolina has one of the lowest rates of spay or neuter in the United States. This, combined with the difficult economy means that rescues are turning cats away or are unable to rescue more cats until some cats are rehomed.
Finally, cat fostering provides a ‘half way house’ for cats in rescue. It allows more one to one care that may be practical to provide in rescue, and allows cat to undergo more detailed assessment and rehabilitation.
Cat rescues find it difficult to find local cat fosterers. No more so that finding cat fosterers in South Carolina within a reasonable distance of Clover SC or Greenville SC.
Cat Foster South Carolina is run by volunteers. We exist only to connect prospective volunteers with cat rescues needing to expand the number of cat fosterers they work with.
Cat fostering is first and foremost a volunteer role. Different cat rescues have differnt terms and conditions / ways of working with their fosterers. Typically you may be expected to pay for your foster cat’s food out of your own pocket while the rescue will remain responsible for veterinary costs.
Being a cat fosterer is generally not a route to adopting the cats in your care. However cat fostering can be an important element of preparing a cat or kitten for adoption.
Cat Foster South Carolina is therefore looking for ‘cat people’ who have the time space to commit to cat fostering for long or short periods of time. The vast majority of cats needing foster care have been saved from kill shelters in South and North Carolina. By volunteering to provide cat foster, you are helping more cats be saved, and learning more about cats too.
